In the course of the further development of archiving options, the term on-premises has become established - due to the possibility of cloud use. Translated into German, on-premises means on one's own premises. In IT, this refers to a usage and licensing model for software applications. In this case, the licensed software is installed and operated on the company's own hardware.
The company is ultimately responsible for administration, maintenance and data backup, and must also take care of any extensions independently. This goes hand in hand with the need for an in-house IT department and appropriately trained employees. However, some companies take this effort on themselves, because the on-premises solution brings a maximum of control - also with regard to data protection - and individuality with it. There is unrestricted access to all data and individual extensions or additions can also be made within the software.
